Transport unions call for action over occupied bus stops at Kaneshie, Circle and Madina

Unions say trading at designated stops makes passenger pick-ups difficult. Their demand is not a government clearance notice.

Transport unions are asking the government to clear trading activity from designated bus stops and walkways, naming Kaneshie, Circle and Madina among the affected locations.

Citi News reports that the Ghana Private Road Transport Union and Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana raised the concerns at a press conference. They say occupied stops and pedestrian areas make picking up and dropping off passengers more difficult and create safety problems.

A demand, not an announced operation

The unions’ requested deadline should not be confused with an enforcement date announced by the government. The report does not establish that clearance has begun at any of the named Accra locations.

Claims about the occupation of particular stops are attributed to the unions. Accra Today has not independently surveyed every location.
